This recipe originally came from my mom and it was one of the first things I learned how to bake. She used to work in a cafe in Ohio and it has always been her most requested cookie recipe. The original recipe calls for a packet of vanilla pudding mix, but I typically omit it these days as I find it too sweet.

Ingredients:
1 cup softened butter 2 eggs 3/4 cup packed brown sugar 2 1/4-1/2 cups flour 1/4 cup white sugar 1 tsp baking soda
* (optional) 1 package vanilla pudding mix 2 cups chocolate chips
1 tsp vanilla extract
1) Cream together butter, sugars, vanilla extract 2) Mix in eggs and pudding mix (if using) until *just* combined 3) Combine flour + soda in a separate bowl, then slowly mix into wet ingredients. The dough should be a bit sticky, add 1/4 cup flour if needed
4) Stir in chocolate chips (Add a bit of flour to the chips first so they don't sink to the bottom)
5) Optional: Refrigerate dough for at least 2 hours or overnight. I find they spread out quite a bit if I leave them at room temperature
6) Roll 1" cookies onto a greased pan and bake 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes
